The Communicable Disease Control Unit is responsible for public health functions, including:

  • Conducting surveillance for more than 80 diseases and disease syndromes
  • Reducing transmission of communicable diseases
  • Investigating reports of disease outbreak
  • Promoting community health by sharing information about immunization programs and best behaviors for disease prevention
  • Stopping the spread of any disease outbreak in the community
  • Developing and executing public health emergency plans for communicable diseases
  • Educating the public about behaviors and practices that contribute to illness and loss of health
